Consider The Costs Before Drinking And Driving

October 19th, 2009 / Filed Under: Legal /

Todd Harvey had completed generous preparations for his winter vacation and had spared no expense in his choice of hotel room and accommodations. He knew this was his opportunity to escape the demands of his increasingly difficult job and he intended to enjoy it to the fullest. What Todd did not [anticipate was his need|predict was the requirement} for a Las Vegas DUI Attorney on just his second night away from Ohio. He merely did not think when he made the determination he was able to drive even though he had consumed several drinks with dinner. He found himself trying to explain to a police officer who had observed him operating his car for several blocks that he really hadn’t had much to drink at all but the officer was not buying his story. After administering a Breathalyzer Test, it was decided that Todd had definitely had too much to drink to drive safely. From the time Todd placed that call to the Las Vegas DUI lawyer he had already made up his mind that nothing like this would ever happen to him in the future. What had begun as a wonderful get-away had turned into such a disaster but it could all have been avoided if these three very simple considerations had been kept in mind.

1. Never drink and drive. It is at all times a danger to yourself and others on the road when you get behind the wheel after drinking. A person may think he is still able to safely navigate the street and in actuality be far from sober. Therefore, if the decision is already made that no matter the amount of alcohol a person has consumed he will not drive under any circumstances, it is certain to be a wise choice. This ensures that a poor decision will not be made that would be subject to a less than clear mind’s interpretation at the time.

2. Always have a designated driver if you plan to drink at all and be on the road. This person needs to be trustworthy and dependable and someone you know quite well. There has to be no doubt at all that when you to ready to go home your designated driver will be available and willing to get you there. Most of all he or she needs to be in a fit condition so that both of you will get home safe and sound and will present no hazard to anyone else on the road at that time.

3. Consider calling a taxi especially if you are in an unfamiliar city, have had more than you planned to drink and have not planned ahead with a designated driver. It is always better to err on the side of caution than to take a chance and drive and than cause an accident or be picked up for erratic driving. Paying for a safe ride home could save the cost of court costs or worse yet the regrets of not making the right choice and injuring yourself or someone else in an unfortunate accident.
